A cover supervisor is a huge asset to any classroom, supporting teaching teams by taking classes and making sure the set work gets done.
By leaving their class in your more than capable hands, teachers are free to focus their time and attention on the mountain of marking, planning and admin they’re expected to do every day.
With complete control and responsibility for the children in your care, you’ll need excellent classroom management as well as the flexibility to meet any of the challenges that a classroom can throw your way. But you won’t have to do any of the planning – cover supervisor jobs start and end in the classroom.
Different schools use supply cover supervisors in different ways, and with no formal qualifications needed, it’ll be up to you to prove what you can do, build trust with the head and class teacher, and develop your experience over time – and who knows where it could take you. Many people use being a cover supervisor as a foundation for a real career in teaching.
