Job Description

Designated Safeguarding Lead required – Birmingham – £600- £700 per week

As a passionate and committed DSL, can you carry out a duty to ensure the safety and welfare of children and young people? 

PK Education are recruiting a Designated safeguarding lead for a large sized secondary school located in the Birmignham area. The role will start in April 2024 and the school require a responsible DSL with a positive attitude towards safeguarding and welfare of children.

The school require candidates to have extensive knowledge and experience in a similar role. The school has a strong leadership team in place supporting the improvement of safeguarding. 

Essential for the Designated safegurding lead:

•        Grade C or above, or equivalent, in both English and Maths (C)

•        A recognized and relevant vocational qualification (NVQ Level 3) and/or equivalent practical work experience (C)

•        Willingness and ability to obtain and/or enhance qualifications and training for development in the post 

•        Working with children and adults 

•        Working in multi-cultural contexts 
•        Working with challenging people



•  Support staff who make referrals to local authority children’s social care

• Note cases to the Channel programme where there is a radicalisation concern

• Note cases to the Disclosure and Barring Service where a person is dismissed or left due to risk or harm to a child

• Note cases of suspected abuse to the local authority children’s social care

• Note cases where a crime may have been committed to the police

• Note detailed, accurate and secure written records of concerns and referrals

• Confirm the school’s child protection policies are known, understood and used appropriately

•  Work with the governing board to ensure the school child protection policy is reviewed annually (as a minimum) and the procedures and implementation are updated and reviewed regularly

• Note the safeguarding policy is available and easily accessible to everyone in the school community

• Note that parents have read the safeguarding policy, and are aware that referrals about suspected abuse or neglect may be made, and the role of the school in this

• Be known to the specific needs of children in need, those with special educational needs and young carers

• Encourage a culture of listening to children among all staff, ensuring that children’s feelings are heard where the school puts measures in place to protect them


Additional requirements for this DSL role:

•             Reference details will be requested prior to registration.

•             Current DBS registered with the DBS Update Service or a current DBS check under our clearance procedures.
