PK Education are working in partnership with the Wolverhampton University and Brays Teaching school. This is an additional application process to apply for a place on the Schools Direct Course via the Teacher Training tab on ucas.com
The programme qualifies you to teach in all SEND settings and phases as well as mainstream primary schools. It includes 120 days in schools made up of 2 special school placements and 2 mainstream ones. It also includes a non-assessed additional voluntary placement at home or abroad and further immersion days to broaden your SEND experience. There are also 65 days of training that are typically based at the Walsall Campus of Wolverhampton University where you will join other student teachers with 5 days of specialised training in SEND pedagogy
The purpose is to support children who have SEND through the high quality teaching they need To offer a training route for those who want to teach children who have SEND To offer high quality continuing professional development and a network of colleagues throughout your career if you remain in this area.
A passion for children who have SEND recent classroom experience including leading groups of children who have SEND. Qualifications: A degree, normally 2:2 or above, GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent in English, Mathematics and usually a Science by the end of the application process you must also pass literacy and numeracy skills test.
The course is based at Wolverhampton University’s Walsall Campus, Gorway Road, WS1 3BD. Teaching placements are in a range of mainstream and special schools based mainly in Birmingham.
We have close partnerships with 9 Birmingham special schools many of whom are graded “Outstanding” by OFSTED and who are centres of excellence in different types of SEND.
