SEN Teaching Assistantt

Temporary

Job Description

PK Education is seeking a patient and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 8 male pupil with ADHD at a specialist SEN school in Northumberland.

This role would suit someone who can build a trusting relationship, offer consistent encouragement and maintain clear boundaries through a firm but fair approach. An interest in music would be helpful when building rapport, although this is not essential.

The role:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.

  • Encourage the pupil to return to class and engage positively with learning.

  • Use calm, consistent strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour.

  • Accompany the pupil while walking around school, maintaining engagement and encouraging a return to classroom activities.

  • Work closely with teaching and support staff to follow agreed support strategies.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEN, ideally including ADHD.

  • A firm but fair approach, balanced with patience, empathy and encouragement.

  • The confidence to support a pupil who may be reluctant to engage in lessons.

  • A willingness to spend a significant part of the day walking around the school with the pupil.

  • An interest in music, although this is desirable rather than essential.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory references and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check.
