Catering Tutor

PK Education is looking for a creative, confident and resilient Catering Tutor to join a specialist SEN school in Newcastle.

Working with small groups of young people aged 16 and over, you will deliver practical catering activities in an enterprise kitchen where learners take an active role. Through realistic kitchen tasks, you will help pupils build cooking skills, confidence and independence while preparing for everyday life and future employment.

Learning will support pupils towards their Independent Living qualifications, with activities adapted to their individual needs, interests and abilities.

This is a challenging setting, so you will need confident behaviour management skills, clear and consistent boundaries, and a calm, encouraging approach.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering engaging, practical catering sessions.

• Supporting learners to develop food preparation, cooking and kitchen safety skills.

• Building teamwork, communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.

• Adapting activities so every learner can participate and make progress.

• Supporting learning towards Independent Living qualifications.

• Working closely with colleagues to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.

We are looking for someone with:

• Relevant catering experience and the ability to teach practical skills.

• Experience teaching, training or supporting young people with additional needs.

• Strong behaviour management skills and a firm, fair and patient approach.

• Creativity, resilience and the ability to build positive relationships.

• A sound understanding of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices.
