PK Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the Newcastle area from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for a caring and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will provide support to pupils who may require additional help with emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence, and engagement with learning.
Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team, you will play a key role in creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where children feel supported and able to thrive.
The role will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis within the primary classroom
- Helping children develop emotional regulation, confidence, and independence
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and associated challenging behaviours
- Building strong, positive relationships with children
- Encouraging engagement with learning and classroom activities
- Working alongside teachers and support staff to implement individual strategies
- Providing a calm and consistent approach to behaviour management
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, youth work, or support setting
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs (desirable)
- A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach
- The ability to build trusting relationships with young people
- Confidence supporting children who may display challenging behaviour
- A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
