SEND Teaching Assistant (Personal Care & Behaviour Support)

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team, supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. This role involves working closely with students who may display severely challenging behaviour and require a high level of personal care. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, tailored to individual needs
• Assist with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and feeding where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times
• Support and manage severely challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to implement support plans
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
• Record and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging emotional regulation and social development

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly those with complex needs and challenging behaviour
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
• Confidence in providing personal care
• Strong behaviour management skills and resilience under pressure
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable (but not essential):

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health & Social Care)
• Training in behaviour management (e.g. Team Teach)
• Experience in a specialist or alternative provision setting
