Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – Challenging Behaviour
Location: Sheffield, S11
Contract: Full-time / Part-time (term-time only)

About the Role
We are seeking a committed, resilient and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team at a school in the S11 area of Sheffield. This role involves working closely with pupils who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with a particular focus on supporting challenging behaviour in the classroom and wider school environment.
You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, access learning, and develop positive relationships, while promoting a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND and challenging behaviour

Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual behaviour plans

Support emotional regulation, social skills and engagement in learning

Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff

Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies

Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times (e.g. break/lunch)

Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and meetings
The Ideal Candidate
-
Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEND, SEMH or ASD
-
Calm, patient and resilient, with a proactive approach to behaviour management

Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

Confident using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

Flexible, reliable and a strong team player

Relevant qualifications or training (e.g. Team Teach) are desirable but not essential
