SEND Teaching Assistant – Special School
Location: Sheffield
Contract: Temporary | Full-time | Term-time only
Daily Rate: £98 – £108 per day (dependent on experience)
PK Education is working in partnership with special schools across the Sheffield area to recruit experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants. We are seeking flexible, reliable, and compassionate individuals to support students with a wide range of severe and complex needs.
This is a challenging but highly rewarding role, ideal for candidates with prior experience in special schools or similar SEND settings.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

Support the class teacher in delivering tailored learning to pupils with SEND

Work with primary and secondary-aged students with severe complex needs, PMLD, SLD, ASD, and non-verbal / pre-verbal communication needs

Build trusted, nurturing relationships to create a safe and positive learning environment

Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and engagement in learning
-
Take a hands-on, flexible approach, adapting support to meet individual needs

Assist with personal care where required
The Ideal Candidate
You will have:
-
Proven experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally within a special school or similar setting

A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

Experience supporting pupils with Autism, severe learning difficulties, and complex needs
-
A passionate, patient, and enthusiastic approach to SEND education
-
A strong understanding of SEND strategies and personalised learning support
Desirable (But Not Essential)
-
Training or experience in MAKATON, PECS, visual aids
-
Experience with PEG feeding and hoist use
-
GNVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care or SEND Diploma
-
Additional SEND-specific training
Safeguarding
-
A Child & Adult Workforce DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
