Job Description

PK Education are currently recruiting for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This rewarding role will involve supporting three Reception-aged pupils who require additional assistance to access the Early Years curriculum and develop their social, emotional and communication skills. The school is looking for a caring, reliable and patient individual who is passionate about supporting young children at the beginning of their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to three Reception pupils, helping them access classroom learning and daily activities

  • Support the development of early communication, social interaction and emotional regulation

  • Assist pupils during phonics sessions, play-based learning, structured activities and daily transitions

  • Implement strategies in line with individual support plans or EHCP targets where applicable

  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and independence within the classroom

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support staff to monitor progress

  • Record observations, progress and concerns in line with school procedures

  • Maintain safeguarding, confidentiality and professional standards at all times

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with Early Years or primary-aged children

  • Understanding of SEND needs such as speech and language delay, ASD or developmental delay

  • A patient, nurturing and calm approach when supporting young children

  • Ability to engage pupils through play-based and structured learning activities

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable:

  • Previous 1:1 Teaching Assistant experience within Reception or EYFS

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream primary setting

  • Knowledge of phonics programmes or Early Years learning approaches

  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant / Childcare
