Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – Challenging Behaviour

Location: Sheffield, S11
Contract: Full-time / Part-time (term-time only)
Start Date: ASAP / By agreement

About the Role

We are seeking a committed, resilient and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team at a school in the S11 area of Sheffield. This role involves working closely with pupils who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with a particular focus on supporting challenging behaviour in the classroom and wider school environment.

You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, access learning, and develop positive relationships, while promoting a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND and challenging behaviour

  • Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual behaviour plans

  • Support emotional regulation, social skills and engagement in learning

  • Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff

  • Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies

  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times (e.g. break/lunch)

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and meetings

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEND, SEMH or ASD

  • Calm, patient and resilient, with a proactive approach to behaviour management

  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Confident using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Flexible, reliable and a strong team player

  • Relevant qualifications or training (e.g. Team Teach) are desirable but not essential
