The Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and resilient SEB (Social, Emotional & Behavioural) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN specialist setting in Gateshead this September. This school provides high-quality education for children and young people with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, global developmental delays, and associated learning difficulties.
You will play a crucial role in supporting pupils to access learning and develop life skills in a structured, therapeutic environment. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children who benefit from highly personalised support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with autism, social and emotional needs, and other learning difficulties
- Help manage behaviours positively and safely using trauma-informed and emotionally-regulated approaches
- Deliver sensory-based or structured learning activities under teacher direction
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN team
- Track and report on progress toward EHCP outcomes
Candidate Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, SEMH or complex learning needs
- A calm, compassionate, and adaptable approach
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with vulnerable learners
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
Desirable but Not Essential
- Relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or SEND qualification
- Experience working in special schools, PRUs, or therapeutic settings
- Awareness of sensory integration or communication needs
