Special Needs Teaching Assistant – ASD / PMLD / SLD Support
Wakefield – (Castleford / Stanley)
Full time – term time only
September start date
We’re working with special schools supporting pupils with a range of complex needs including autism (ASD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The school environment includes sensory rooms, hydrotherapy facilities, therapy spaces, and extensive outdoor learning areas.
Job spec & Description:
- Support individual or small groups of pupils aged 2–11 with EHCPs
- Use communication systems like PECs, Makaton, or AAC devices
- Assist with sensory integration and regulation activities
- Support personal care, mobility (including hoisting), and hydrotherapy
- Implement IEP/EHCP targets under guidance from class teachers and therapists
- Build nurturing, consistent relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Proven experience working with children with ASD, PMLD, or SLD
- Knowledge of visual and sensory strategies
- Comfortable with personal care routines and medical protocols (training provided)
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour
- Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS (registered on the Update Service)
- Relevant SEND qualifications or training (desirable but not essential
